Welcome to California's North Coast

With free-flowing rivers, rugged mountain ranges, and rural towns surrounded by open ranges, dairy farms, redwood forests, wild salmon runs and cackling geese, the North Coast region is considered one of the last best places on the planet.

The Northcoast Regional Land Trust is a nonprofit organization with a focus of protecting land and water on nearly five million acres on California’s North Coast encompassing Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties. Find out more About us.

Freshwater Farms Reserve Nature Trail Temporary Closure

The Freshwater Nature Trail will be temporarily closed from August 1st through October 21st 2016, due to two large projects breaking ground on the property, and the reduced parking capacity resulting from the projects. The projects consist of a barn renovation of the historic Graham-Long Dairy Barn which will add structural integrity to the iconic barn, and the Wood Creek Aquatic Enhancement Project - Phase 2 which will restore essential juvenile salmonid habitat within Wood Creek, both on the Freshwater Farms Reserve property.

We plan to use the barn to support the working lands component of the property and are excited to create additional habitat opportunities for the wildlife of our region. We have been delighted with the amount of use the trail has been getting since its opening and we thank you for your understanding as we work on our next phase of making this property a important community asset. We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope to see you out on the trail in mid October!

A Community Masterpiece

Freshwater Farms Reserve is becoming a very special place to many people in our community - a place representing how cows and coho can coexist in conservation efforts. For a fun taste of the property and the diverse uses, watch these beautiful and creatively crafted short videos put together by different local artists and filmmakers:
