Welcome to California's North Coast

With free-flowing rivers, rugged mountain ranges, and rural towns surrounded by open ranges, dairy farms, redwood forests, wild salmon runs and cackling geese, the North Coast region is considered one of the last best places on the planet.

The Northcoast Regional Land Trust is a nonprofit organization with a focus of protecting land and water on nearly five million acres on California’s North Coast encompassing Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties. Find out more About us.

Cows and Cattails

As part of NRLT's education program, we take kids on field trips to learn about wetlands and working lands. This trip with a homeschool group was at Freshwater Farms Reserve on a rainy, but beautiful day! We explored, played games, found bugs and identified plants. Getting out on the Land

NRLT staff, contractors and interns got out on the land for the 2012 retreat. The day was spent horseback riding on the Chalk Mountain Ranch, owned by Les, Janet and Gloria Barnwell. A conservation easement was completed on over 3,000 acres in 2010, with an additional easement of over 4,000 acres scheduled to close in 2012. The ride was beautiful and exciting, followed by a delicious barbeque and storytelling from Gloria about the history of the property. A special thanks to the Barnwell's for allowing us to experience their wonderful way of life!
