Welcome to California's North Coast

With free-flowing rivers, rugged mountain ranges, and rural towns surrounded by open ranges, dairy farms, redwood forests, wild salmon runs and cackling geese, the North Coast region is considered one of the last best places on the planet.

The Northcoast Regional Land Trust is a nonprofit organization with a focus of protecting land and water on nearly five million acres on California’s North Coast encompassing Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties. Find out more About us.

In Open Air

Photos by Mark Larson

The grand opening on May 1st for the Freshwater Farms Nature Trail was spectacular! With the sun shining, nearly 1,000 people joined in on the festivities: locally produced food and drinks, amazing music by Thursday Night Bluegrass and Josephine Johnson, guided walks and incredible landscape art work. We thank everyone who helped make this event so special and for the many people who have put their time, energy, and care into this property over the years. Now it is open to our community for you to enjoy!

A special thanks to all the plein air painters. A sample of some of the beautiful masterpieces created:

Getting People on the Land: OLLI 2016

We recently collaborated with HSU's Extended Education Program to host a OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) class. In an effort to teach people about local Land Trusts and our collective work to conserve wild and working lands, we featured three sessions, two of which focused on getting people out on the land.

The first field trip was to our Freshwater Farms Reserve property and the second was to the 7,340 acre conservation easement on Charles Mountain Ranch, where we partnered with landowners, Tim and Jackie Pricer, to protect their property with a conservation easement.

Thank you to everyone who attended, to Rees Hughes and Ann King Smith, NRLT Board Members who helped teach the class, and to the Pricers for allowing us to come tour their beautiful and very special spot!
